History

FM Industries (FMI) is a solutions provider for the semiconductor capital equipment, medical and aerospace markets.

FM Industries (FMI) was founded in early 1989 to provide precision machined parts for existing robotics business. As a customer for precision machining services, they realized the quality, precision and vendor reliability they demanded were not consistently available in Silicon Valley.

During the mid 1990's, semiconductor equipment manufacturers increasingly outsourced key components and critical assemblies. This enabled them to focus on their core competences of developing processes for next generation chips. In 1996, FMI began providing machining and assembly manufacturing services in Silicon Valley.

In February 2002, NGK Insulators (www.ngk.co.jp/english) acquired FMI. This acquisition is the culmination of five years of close collaboration with FMI, providing NGK with an enhanced base of operations in North America. This business relationship allows FMI to be more competitive in combining NGK's ceramic expertise and products with FMI's sub-contracted machined parts and assemblies.

New investment from FMI's parent company NGK has enabled FMI to acquire state-of-the-art CNC equipment, add new manufacturing capabilities and completely refurbish the layout of FMI's Fremont, California manufacturing facility. Today, FMI has the unique ability and technical prowess to solve complex manufacturing problems. This enables prototypes to seamlessly transfer to production, providing customers a competitive edge in speed to market of new product introductions.
